Bio of Rick Sparks:
Rick Sparks received his BS in Biomedical Engineering, his MS in Solid Mechanics, and his Ph.D. in Engineering Science (Radiation Protection, Image Processing, and Artificial Intelligence) all from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He received his MBA from Colorado State University. He also has a Master's degree in philosophy from UT with a specialization in ethics and philosophy of science. He is currently pursuing a veterinary medical degree (DVM) at the University of Tennessee.
Rick Sparks founded "CDE Dosimetry Services, Inc." in 1997, As President and CEO he has managed all aspects of this business. CDE helps pharmaceutical companies develop new diagnostic and therapeutic drugs through operations including protocol design, radiopharmaceutical dosimetry, medical image quantification, medical device dosimetry, occupational worker compensation dosimetry, and cancer therapy physician certification. Rick Sparks has also served as a dosimetry consultant to the FDA.
Prior to this Rick Sparks worked for 5 years as a research scientist at the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education. He also worked a brief stint at Renaissance Financial, Inc. At this job, in a period of less than one year, he produced loan packages/prospectuses that landed over 9 million dollars of bank loans for new construction and refinance for client businesses. Prior to this he held jobs including engineering graphics instructor (TA) at the University of TN, bartender, musician, kayak instructor, and raft guide. Rick Sparks has over 70 published scientific papers and/or abstracts, has been an invited speaker, session moderator, presenter, and/or lecturer at a number of national scientific meetings, and has served as a reviewer for several scientific journals.
Rick Sparks currently sits on the board of directors for The Radiation Dose Assessment Resource Group, Inc. which is an international council of physicians and scientists committed to producing and making available to the scientific community the most up to date and scientifically accurate radiation dosimetry information possible (Funded in part by the International Atomic Energy Association). He also sits on the board of directors for Smarco, Inc., and sits on the board of advisors for Educational Adventures, LLC. whose operations include the production and marketing of safety videos, cartoons, and equipment.
Rick Sparks served his country as an officer in the US Army Reserve Medical Service Corps from 1998 until 2006. He held positions in the 7235 Medical Support Unit and the 4212th US Army Hospital. He graduated from Officer Basic course with honors. He held a DOD "secret" security clearance. He ended his military service at the rank of Captain.
Rick Sparks has also studied extensively in the area of self defense, having participated in various martial arts including, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Many styles of Jujitsu, Kung Fu, Kickboxing, Boxing, Freestyle Wrestling, Aikido, Ishinryu Karate, Hap Ki Do, Tae Kwon Do and Fencing.
